Description

The PWM Modulator interface board can be used to turn a set of Solid-State relay boards into a high frequency, high voltage Class D switching power amplifier. The board takes a single analog input and creates a PWM modulated square wave output. This PWM signal can then be routed to a Half-bridge or H-Bridge through other interface boards to create high voltage, high frequency arbitrary waveforms from signal-level inputs.

This board also has several useful features to make it suitable for a variety of applications such as inverters, amplifiers, and power converters. Depending on the desired output frequency range, the modulation frequency can be adjusted to five fixed values of 10 kHz, 50 kHz, 100 kHz, 500 kHz, and 1 MHz. The modulated input signal can be input either through the external BNC input connector, one of the terminal blocks, or a polarized 2-pin connector. If manual PWM control is desired, a potentiometer on the board allows direct manual adjustment of the duty cycle from 0 to 100%. To calibrate the PWM output, an input offset nulling circuit is included to balance the external input signal (which can have maximum amplitude of 1 V peak to peak).
